  • BROKE - Legacy software from 1980 to to perform static or dynamic analysis of an electric transmission line system when one or more wires suddenly break. Source code in FORTRAN and related reports can be downloaded from the earthquake engineering online archive maintained by University of California Berkeley. BROKE: Dynamic Analysis of Electric Transmission Line Systems with Broken Wires Fleming, John F.; Siddiqui, Faruq M. A. Department of Civil Engineering, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, 1980, This program may be used to perform static or dynamic analysis of an electric transmission line system when one or more wires suddenly break. In the static analysis the displacements, the wire tensions, and the forces at the wire attachment points and the ground line moments are computed for the broken wire equilibrium position for each support structure. In the dynamic analysis the variation with time of the same quantities are computed and the maximum values and their time of occurrence, along with corresponding impact factors, are given. The analysis is performed for a mathematical model of the line system consisting of the individual structural elements which are: the wires; the suspension insulators; and the support structures, which are usually called towers. The static analysis uses the Stiffness Method of analysis in which the displacements at discrete points in the mathematical model are computed by solving a set of equilibrium equations obtained by summing external applied loads and internal resisting forces at each of the points. For the dynamic analysis a numerical integration approach is used to solve the dynamic equations of motion for a lumped mass mathematical model. The user can choose between two different numerical integration procedures. Available online: http://nisee.berkeley.edu/documents/SWSC/BROKE.zip (46 KB)

In this way, structures of almost any geometry can be defined quickly and easily. Following the preparation of the structural model, CBS Pro will calculate the loads on all structural components quickly and easily, using the "tributary area" approach or by adopting a full finite element analysis made "invisibly" inside CBS Pro. It can be easily integrated with other IFC-enabled software.

  • SHLAG - Legacy software from 1990 to analyze shear lag in simple and continuous T, I, and Box Beams. Source code in FORTRAN and related reports can be downloaded from the earthquake engineering online archive maintained by University of California Berkeley. SHLAG: Shear Lag Analysis of Simple and Continuous T, I, and Box Beams Song, Qi-Gen Department of Civil Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing, China, 1990, Stress distribution in wide beam flanges and the related problems of effective width or stress ratio have been studied experimentally and theoretically by harmonic analysis and by finite element analysis. Based upon some rational assumptions for the behavior of the web of the beam, a simplified shear lag analysis for the stresses in the flanges, which is convenient for a wide range of problems is implemented in SHLAG. The report discusses the convergence of the solution for peak stresses, and an improved technique is developed. Theoretically, due to the shear lag effect, the longitudinal distribution of the bending moment in a continuous beam with wide flanges is differenct from that for a prismatic beam analysed by elementary beam theory. A general procedure for determining the stress resultants in a continuous beam considering the shear lag effect is also presented. The program requires only a minimum amount of input data for the calculation of the stress distribution and the stress ratios in the flanges of these beams for a variety of loading cases.
